Using AI around service records
AI works best in support services when the task is bounded, the data source is approved and the human review point is clear.
Start with low-risk, useful tasks
Good first uses include drafting summaries, preparing handover notes, finding relevant context, turning activity into report drafts and helping staff understand the next practical step.
Keep the source visible
Staff should be able to see which notes, outcomes, tags or documents informed an AI-assisted answer. That makes review easier and helps avoid blind trust in a generated draft.
Define what stays human-led
AI can support the work, but decisions about people, risk, safeguarding, eligibility, judgement and accountability should remain with trained staff and agreed organisational processes.
Control permissions and data flow
AI should only use information it is allowed to use. That means approved data sources, clear roles, sensible retention and deployment choices that match the sensitivity of the service.
Build confidence before expanding
Start with one workflow, prove the benefit, document the boundary and train staff. A careful first project creates a stronger base for more ambitious AI support later.
